Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to join the military?
- Although JROTC is a military-based program, you do not have to join the military by any means. If you are interested, being in the program can get you an automatic promotion if you enlist, and many ROTC scholarships are available.
Can JROTC help with college?
- Most definitely! Like previously mentioned, ROTC offers many scholarships. Even if you are not interested in the military, the program looks incredible on transcripts and applications not only for college but additionally extending outside of school.
Are there strict rules?
- Contrary to many stereotypes and beliefs, cadets will not yell at you and cannot force you to do push-ups. We are quite laid-back and flexible; there are general guidelines, but nothing "strict."
How much does it cost?
- The program is free! Uniforms and activities are covered by the Marine Corps and fundraising. All of the activities you will see cost virtually NOTHING. We do this so it gives cadets equal opportunities to experience and learn. Plus, who doesn't love free nachos every Wednesday?
Can I still do activities outside of JROTC?
- Of course, in fact, we encourage you to do so! Your academics are a priority, and we want you to explore many of the options that Silas offers. Even if you compete in multiple competition teams, you have many flexible options and choices.
